The Scottish Battlefields Trust is open to all those with an interest in Scotland's battlefields and their associated heritage. We are currently inviting applications for new trustees, to help us expand our reach and help represent battlefields right across Scotland. Our board of trustees is drawn from a diverse group of individuals committed to the Trust's goals:
Dr Arran Johnston - Director
Arran has been the director of the Trust since its foundation, and is an expert on Scotland’s Jacobite battlefields. He also leads on the Lothians & Borders area, running our Dunbar 1650 Project. Arran works as a freelance historian, and as consultant curator at the Battle of Prestonpans Museum. He is the author of The Battles of Bonnie Prince Charlie, On Gladsmuir Shall the Battle Be!, Essential Agony: the Battle of Dunbar 1650, and Blood Stain’d Fields: the battles of East Lothian.
Jenn Scott - Secretary
Jenn took on the role of secretary in 2025, and is an expert on the clothing and equipment of Scottish soldiers from the 15th to early 18th centuries. She works for a clan society, and is the author of a number of books including The Men of Warre and I am Minded to Rise.
Warwick Louth
Warwick joined the Trust at its inception as an advisor on archaeological issues. He has an MLitt in Battlefield & Conflict Archaeology from Glasgow University, and works at Bannockburn battlefield. Warwick’s particular field of interest is the 17th century, and he is the author of The Arte Militaire and Monmouth’s First Rebellion: the later Covenanter RIsings 1660-1685.
John Home Robertson
John is a former Member of Parliament and former Member of the Scottish Parliament, and founder of The Paxton Trust. With ancestors who fought and fell at numerous Scottish battlefields, John is also an enthusiastic amateur archaeologist.
Sharon Beck
Sharon has been a trustee since the Trust was founded, and served as Secretary until 2024. Sharon has extensive experience in heritage education, and is currently the Learning Officer at the Museum of the Royal Regiment of Scotland.
